Not only do humans make acid rain worse every day, but they are also the main cause of acid rain to begin with. Over the years have released a number of toxic pollutants into the atmosphere, even changing its overall gas mixture. Though there are many types of gasses that humans have polluted the Earth’s atmosphere with, nitrogen is particularly harmful, especially when it comes to acid rain. The acidity of the rain, as well as the nitrogen mixed in with it, causes more damage to statues and surfaces.
